Our plans for School Improvement - A Story of Success
We have made dramatic improvements since 2013 and the school has grown from strength to strength.
- In 2013, the infant and junior schools amalgamated and in the Junior School there had been 3 head teachers in 4 years.
- Both the infant school and the junior school were rated as Requires Improvement by Ofsted and both schools were at risk of becoming rated as Inadequate.
- Work on turning the newly amalgamated school around began in September 2013, resulting in rapid changes in expectations, standards and leadership.
- After 10 months, the school was given a Good grade by Ofsted.
- A continuous drive for improvement has resulted in the school being recognised by the Mayor for London, The Rt Hon. Nick Gibb (Minister of State for School Standards) and Tim Coulson (Regional Schools Commissioner for The Department for Education). See letters here.
- One of our teachers was awarded the accolade of Barking and Dagenham Maths Teacher of the Year.
- Another teacher has been trained to become a Specialist Leader in Education for the Tollgate Alliance.
- We have been awarded an Outstanding grade by the National College of Further Education (NCFE) for our in-house training of teaching assistants and for our outreach work in supporting the development of teaching assistants (TAs) in other schools. Our TAs complete the course and are accredited by the NCFE. Many of our former students have gone on to work successfully in other schools.
- We are a case study school for excellent teaching assistant practice in the MITA project.
- The school is a leader in mathematics provision and is a recognised hub school for Mathematical Mastery.
- Recently, our school was approached to support a school in a nearby Local Authority.
- Very recently, our school was selected as one of the top 6% of schools across London (based on pupil progress), for the London Mayor's, Schools for Success programme. See here.
Each year we focus on 3 key priority areas but this does not mean that we forget about other parts of school provision. Our subject leads and teams have developed into self-sufficient units that carry forward the school vision and enable senior leaders to concentrate on the key areas of learning improvement.
